Places to Eat and Drink Near By
To help you be a responsible visitor and to save you time deciding where to go we’ve compiled a list of the closest local “eateries”. Click on the link for each to see their menus and find out where they are. At the time of writing all the pubs and most of the cafes were dog-friendly but its always wise to check. Many also offer some or all of their menu as takeaway.
These can get quite busy in the evenings and it is highly recommended that you make a booking so as not to be disappointed. Please check their opening hours as they do vary through the year.
Lustleigh
- The Cleave Inn – good food in tradititional thatched pub in centre of picturesque village, lovely beer garden.
- Primrose Tea Room and Garden – Perfect for a cream tea or a delicious large salad in the summer.
NB. Parking can be a challenge in Lustleigh as it was not designed for cars. Walk or cycle down the Wray Valley Trail if you have time.
Moretonhampstead
None of the restuarants have their own parking but it is free on the street and in the public car parks after 6pm. In the daytime you could walk or cycle down the Wray Valley Trail.
- The Union Inn – traditional pub food, huge portions (particularly the homemade pies) and good range of beer.
- Berto’s Pizza Restaurant – authentic BYO (corkage payable) Italian pizzeria and pasta. NB the Bottle Shop is opposite across the road and the Co-op is open until late if you need to get supplies.
- The Horse – Bistro/Bar with extensive pizza menu.
- The White Hart – hotel with bar and restaurant serving homemade food sourced from local suppliers
- The Bottle Shop – wine shop and bar serving tapas and charcuterie
- Central Cafe – Friendly cafe serving food and snacks to eat in or take away. Very popular with cyclists. Good option for a late cooked breakfast
- Baskervilles Ice Cream Parlour & Coffee Shop – Mainly outdoor seating. As well as ice creams and the usual array of tea, coffee, soft drinks and cakes, it also sells ice lollies for dogs.
Manaton & North Bovey
Although not very far away as the crow flies, you will need to be happy driving down narrow lanes to get to these pubs. They are both excellent to visit for lunch on a walk from here.
- Kestor Inn, Manaton – freshly prepared lunches and evening meals using Devon’s seasonal produce. Watch our for their seafood specials.
- Ring of Bells, North Bovey – run by Eversfield Organic since January 2023.
Bovey Tracey
- Creeping Thyme, Bovey Tracey – intimate, 20 seater restaurant. Using ingredients from small, and local companies providing dishes that are fresh, hearty and locally sourced in a calm clean space.
- Royal Ghurka Spice, Bovey Tracey – the nearest Indian and Nepalese restaurant
- Cafe 3 Sixty – independent café, bar & restaurant. Great for cyclists with indoor and outdoor bike parking and on-site cycle workshop.
- Home Farm Cafe, Parke Estate, Bovey Tracey – serving brunch, lunch and snacks (and dinner in the summer); meat is sourced from local farms with the rest of their produce as local as possible, favouring Devon .
- Ullacombe Farm – Farm shop, butcher and cafe near Bovey Tracey on the way to Haytor. We particularly like the High Tea for Two.
Chagford
With at least 4 pubs plus several lovely cafes Chagford is definitely a place to visit and is worth the 15 – 20 minute a drive on a summer evening if you want to go further afield.
