Back to Basics at Wray Valley Camping

Wray Valley Camping

Experience nearly wild camping with dark starry skies and be kept awake by the owls!

Simply Dartmoor Camping

We offer sustainable camping on up to 5 large flat tent pitches in our sloping hay meadow and separately in our woods to campers who are members of the Nearly Wild Camping Club. We are also happy to take bookings from groups who have their own camping licence, e.g. Duke of Edinburgh Award, Scouts, Guides etc.

There is a tree bog compost loo, a drinking water tap supplied from our own borehole and you can paddle and bathe in the river. BBQs are permitted and there is a shared campfire where you can meet and share stories other campers or you can borrow one of our fire pits.

Dogs are allowed but must be kept under control at all times as we have free range chickens.

Due to the sloping nature of the site it is not possible to have your car by your tent, you will be asked to leave it in the car park at the top of the hill.  For the same reason we are unable to accommodate camper vans or caravans – there’s no level area to park on – Sorry!

We are both qualified walking guides and are happy to help you plan a walk or by arrangement we can take you on a walk or provide navigation training.

Bike hire is available from the nearby Dartmoor Bike Hire – who will deliver if you don’t have a car.

Currently we have our “awesome” tree bog compost toilet and adjacent “tree pee”, with handwashing facilities fed from a rainwater butt.  There is a drinking water tap supplying our own Dartmoor spring water which is filtered and UV treated on site.  We now have a washing up sink with hot water.

Bathing is currently limited to a quick dip, paddle or swim in the river althought Moretonhampstead Outdoor Swimming Pool is not far away.

Our current project for the summer is to build a couple of showers and toilets for those campers who want a bit more luxury.

How much does it cost?
