We picked up 6 ex-battery hens from the British Hen Welfare Trust on a hot day two weeks ago. 

They were initially very timid, pallid and a bit the worse for wear with lots of feathers missing. They have been gradually building up confidence and developing their individual characters. Two days ago we let them go free range which was nerve wracking but they came back to the hen house. Three are definitely more adventurous having been down to the campsite and visited the campers. At the moment we get about 4 eggs a day so you may be lucky and be able to buy some eggs for breakfast on the campsite .
